Parkland women's basketball falls short in Region 24 finals

A third straight trip to Nationals was not in the making Sunday as the Illinois Central College Cougars ended the Cobras two-year run with an 85-70 win over Parkland in the Region 24 Final in Lincoln.  The #4 Cougars (29-4) advance to Nationals while the Cobras see their season come to an end at (24-9).

The Cobras picked the wrong day to have an off shooting night as PC could never get untracked from the field. ICC shot 54% in both halves while PC shot just 31%. Parkland was especially ineffective from three where they made just 4-29 from behind the three-point line.  ICC built a 47-28 halftime lead and eventually pushed the lead to 32 before the never say die Cobras put up a fierce rally. PC outscored ICC 42-25 the rest of the way and actually go the deficit down to as few as 12 with 2:22 left in the game but could get no closer.
Sophomore Josie Zerrusen ends her Parkland career with 17 points and 5 assists. Kassidy Alderman and Layne Buzan added 9 points while Kerstyn Lowery added 8. Fellow sophomore Lauren Moses just missed another double-double with 8 points and 13 rebounds. Despite the loss, congratulations go out to this group that compiled a two-year record of 59-11, finishing as NJCAA Runner-Up in 2015 while also earning two M-WAC titles. Congratulations to Coach Mike Lindemann and his staff as well as all of the players on another exciting and successful season.
