DMACC volleyball team goes 2-2 in DMACC Invitational

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team split four matches in the DMACC Invitational October 4 and 5 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The Bears dropped a 3-0 decision to Parkland College (PC) and defeated Waubonsee Community College (WCC) on Oct. 4 and repeated that sequence on Oct. 5, losing to Highland Community College (HCC), 3-0, and defeating Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC), 3-1.

 

PC came into the tournament with a No. 1 ranking in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll and HCC came in at No. 7. RCTC is ranked first in the NJCAA Division III poll.

 

Sophomore Amber Dilsaver of Fort Madison and freshman Delaney Kelley of Rock Island, Ill., came away with six kills apiece in DMACC's 25-13, 25-16, 25-19 loss to PC. The Bears hit just .121 in the match, getting 25 kills from 116 attacks with 11 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Cailey Schaa of Council Bluffs led DMACC in assists with 21 and freshman Dakota Miles of Dallas Center, freshman Darian Gray of Mechanicsville and Schaa contributed 20, 14 and 11 digs respectively.

 

Dilsaver had 17 kills and three ace serves and the Bears came away with a .171 hitting percentage in a 26-24, 25-18, 31-33, 25-22 win over WCC. DMACC got 50 kills from 187 attacks with 18 hitting errors.

 

Schaa led the way in assists with 44 and Kelley had a pair of ace serves. Miles led five players in double figures in digs with 35. Gray came away with 25, freshman Jordan Neely of Tiffin had 21, sophomore Eryn Anderson of Houghton finished with 12 and Kelley added 11. Freshman Katelyn Courtney of Ames led the Bears in blocks with eight, including five block assists.

 

Dilsaver's 12 hills and four ace serves led DMACC in a 25-16, 25-19, 25-18 loss to HCC. The Bears hit just .106 with 30 kills from 123 attacks with 17 hitting errors.

Schaa had a team-high 29 assists and freshman Sloane Magill of Sigourney added three ace serves. Miles led the Bears in digs with 21, Gray added 11 and Courtney came away with five blocks, including four block assists.

 

Dilsaver's 18 kills and 13 from Gray lifted DMACC to a 25-19, 19-25, 25-19, 26-24 win over RCTC. The Bears hit .135 in the win, getting 48 kills from 185 attacks with 23 hitting errors.

 

Freshman Bailey Jennings of Burlington led DMACC in assists with 26 and Schaa finished with 19. Dilsaver topped the Bears in ace serves with three and Miles had a team-high 34 digs. Gray and Neely finished with 18 and 16 digs respectively and Courtney had 10 block assists with Dilsaver getting six.

 

The DMACC volleyball team returns to Iowa Community College Athletic Conferences (ICCAC) play Oct. 9 when the Bears face Southeastern Community College (SECC) at West Burlington. DMACC is 3-2 in league play. SECC is 17-10 overall and also has a 3-2 record in conference play.
