Van Heuklon has 3-HR Game in Chargers’ Loss to Cougars

EAST PEORIA — Logan Van Heuklon (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) had a three-homer game, but it wasn't enough for the Carl Sandburg College baseball team in an 8-6 setback at Illinois Central in a nine-inning contest Thursday afternoon.

Key Moment
The Cougars never trailed, scoring a pair of runs in each of the first two innings. Sandburg cut its deficit to 4-3 in the fourth on Van Heuklon's second dinger of the day, but ICC extended its lead with a three-run fifth.

Sandburg Standout
Van Heuklon — who had not homered in 84 plate appearances to begin the season — went yard in each of his first three at-bats Thursday. He hit a solo shot to center in the second, smashed a two-run blast to left in the fourth and added another solo jack to left in the sixth. He came to bat in the eighth as the potential tying run and with a chance at a four-homer game but struck out swinging on a full count. The third baseman finished 3 for 4 with three runs and four RBIs.
