Rough start to the season

Rough start to the season

The No. 13 nationally ranked Cyclones had their first test on the court this season at the Parkland College Tournament Nov. 1 and 2. The largely freshmen team lost both games.

Their first game was against Lincoln Land Community College, the No. 10 team in the nation and only squad to defeat Moraine Valley last season. Unfortunately, this matchup yielded another loss. Moraine Valley got off to a slow start and couldn't recover. The Cyclones mustered 18 points in the first half to the Loggers' 47. The Cyclones settled down in the second half and were able to score 41 points with full-court pressure. A mostly freshmen crew facing a seasoned sophomore-led program ultimately proved to be too much for the Cyclones in the 89-59 loss. Erin Greenfield led in scoring with 17 points. Freshmen Kirsten Kamholz and Chelsea Cross each added nine points.

The second game with Parkland College was a closer battle, but the Cyclones fell 70-51. Although Moraine Valley still struggled to score early, they fought defensively to keep a lower point spread, going down 15-9 after the first quarter. The Cyclones were down seven until a halftime buzzer beating three-pointer by the Cobras. The next two quarters saw slight deficits, and the Cyclones could not make enough gains. Kamholz led the Cyclones with 12 points and eight rebounds. Nicole Poole added 10 points.
