DMACC volleyball team goes 2-2 in Parkland Classic
  • DMACC records victories over McHenry Community College and Lincoln Land Community College

  • DMACC hits a tournament-high .276 in win over Lincoln Land Community College

 

The DMACC volleyball team played in the Parkland Classic Sept. 24 and 25 at Champaign, Ill., and split four matches.

 

The Bears opened the tournament with a 3-1 win over McHenry Community College (MCC) on Sept. 24 and then dropped a 3-2 decision to Vincennes University (VU) later in the day. DMACC lost to Parkland College (PC), 3-0, on Sept. 25 and closed out the tournament with a 3-0 win over Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC), also on Sept. 25.

 

The 2-2 tournament record gives the Bears a 10-4 mark for the season.

 

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Abby Allmon of Norwalk had 13 kills and CoFR Kylie Welch of Davenport and CoFR Abigail Maue of Walker finished with nine and seven respectively as the Bears topped MCC by set scores of 25-19, 22-25, 28-26, 25-17. DMACC hit .135 in the win, getting 40 kills from 155 attacks with 19 hitting errors.

 

CoFR Sara Hansen of Hudson led the Bears in assists with 34 and CoFR Rachel Eddy of Dubuque came away with four ace serves with Hansen, CoFR Alissa Weinkoetz of Afton and Welch getting two ace serves apiece. Eddy topped the Bears in digs with 22, Welch finished with 14 and Hansen had 12. Maue came away with six blocks, including five block assists. Welch had four block assists and Weinkoetz had four blocks, including three block assists.

 

DMACC won the first two sets against VC, 25-18 and 25-17, but the Trailblazers won the next three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-12, 25-10 to take the match.

 

Weinkoetz led the Bears with 12 kills, CoFR Anna Niehaus of Carroll finished with 11 and Welch had nine. DMACC hit .135 with 46 kills coming from 156 attacks with 25 hitting errors.

 

Hansen led the Bears in assists with 35 and in digs with 13. Welch and Eddy finished with 12 digs apiece. Maue, Allmon and Welch had four blocks apiece. Maue had four block assists, Allmon finished with two and Welch had one.

 

PC, ranked third in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, topped DMACC, the No. 14 team in NJCAA Division II, by set scores of 25-15, 25-23, 25-11. Niehaus led the Bears with nine kills and Welch and Weinkoetz had six and five respectively. DMACC hit .066 in the loss, getting 24 kills from 106 attacks with 17 hitting errors.

 

Hansen again led the Bears in assists with 22 and Weinkoetz finished with two ace serves. Eddy led DMACC in digs with 17 and Welch had 15.

 

The Bears closed out the tournament with a 3-0 win over LLCC on set scores of 25-22, 25-20, 26-24. Niehaus led the way in kills with 11 and Welch and Allmon had eight apiece. DMACC hit a tournament high .276 in the win, getting 41 kills from 105 attacks with 12 hitting errors.

 

Hansen finished the match with 35 assists and freshman Erin Bathe of Ames had three ace serves. Welch had a team-high 15 digs with Hansen and Bathe getting nine apiece and Eddy coming away with eight. Maue, Weinkoetz and Allmon had three block assists apiece.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will face Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) in an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) match Sept. 29 at Estherville. DMACC is 2-2 in conference play. ILCC is 6-18 overall and 1-3 in the ICCAC.
