No. 7 Grizzlies sweep Lewis & Clark

The Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) Grizzly Volleyball team took care of business Wednesday night, defeating Lewis & Clark Community College in straight sets.

The No. 7 Grizzlies downed the Trailblazers 25-10, 25-15, 25-10 in Joe Paul Evans Arena at the West Plains Civic Center. Their record now stands at 19-5 for the season.

"We focused on our side this match and it paid off," Grizzly Volleyball Head Coach Paula Wiedemann said. We served well, which helped us block well. The little details of the game help keep us consistent, and we are getting better at that every day."

The game's statistical leaders

Freshman middle blocker Alana Moesch led the Grizzlies in kills with 13, averaging 4.33 kills per set. She also had a .600 hitting percentage.

Redshirt freshman middle blocker Manuela Bibinbe led the team in blocks with four, and Moesch added three more. As a team, the Grizzlies recorded 10 blocks for an average of 3.33 per set.

Freshman setter Doga Kutlu and redshirt freshman libero Lauren Weber each had eight digs. Kutlu led the team in assists with 24, while Weber led the team in passing rating with 2.37. Weber also had three aces in the game.

"We want to say thank you, again, to all our fans who showed up," Wiedemann said. "We appreciate the support, and we know it makes a difference for our teams."

Up next

The Grizzlies will take the weekend off, then return to the road next week to close out region play against Mineral Area College at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 21 in Park Hills.

They will then make the short trek to Hillsboro to compete in the Jefferson College Invitational, where they will meet the No. 2 Iowa Western Community College Reivers and No. 11 Seward County Community College Saints at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively, on Oct 22.

They will close out the tournament at 1 p.m. Oct. 23 against Illinois Central College.

The Grizzlies' last regular season game will be a home contest against Missouri Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAC) rival East Central College at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25 in Joe Paul Evans Arena.

"We will be celebrating our sophomores with their last home game," Wiedemann said.
