RedTail’s Volleyball Competes in Two Tournaments over the Weekend

FORT DODGE–The RedTail Volleyball team traveled to Fort Dodge to compete in the Iowa Central Tournament on September 3. The RedTails lost the first match to Parkland College 1-3, but were able to win their next match against Illinois Central College 3-1. 

 

The RedTails started their night playing the Parkland College Cobras. The RedTails won the first set 25-18. They lost the next two sets 22-25. The RedTails lost the fourth and final set 12-25. The next match was against Illinois Central College. The RedTails won the first set 25-19. The second set was well fought, but the RedTails lost 28-30. The RedTails went on the win the third set 25-17 and the fourth set 25-18. 

 

"Parkland College is ranked number one in the nation for a reason, they are a fantastic team from top to bottom," says assistant coach Molly Schamansky "We are extremely proud of how we competed."

 

MARSHALLTOWN- The RedTails then traveled to Marshalltown, Iowa to compete in their second tournament of the weekend on September 4. The RedTails lost their first match against Kirkwood Community College 2-3. They were able to comeback and win their second match against Marshalltown Community College 3-0.

 

The RedTails lost the first set to the Kirkwood Eagles 19-25. In the second set the RedTails won 25-22. It was a hard fought third set, but the RedTails lost 27-29. The fourth set went to the RedTails 25-20. The RedTails lost the fifth and final set 10-15. The next match was against the Marshalltown Community College Tigers. The RedTails won the first set 25-14. The Tigers fought back in the second set, but the RedTails were victorious winning 27-25. The RedTails dominated the third set winning 25-6 and winning the match. 

 

"The girls rounded out a fantastic weekend with a solid win against Marshalltown and took one of the top ranked teams in the nation to five sets." says assistant coach Molly Schamansky. "We will continue to learn and grow from the Kirkwood loss."

 

The RedTails return home to play North Iowa Area Community College on September 8 at 6:00pm.
