Softball Drops Opening Games

Softball Drops Opening Games

The 2016 softball season began for the Golden Rams in Titusville, FL where they played Cumberland College (New Jersey) on Friday, March 11th.

In the top half of the first inning Anoka-Ramsey loaded the bases only to leave all runners stranded. Failing to get a clutch hit became the unfortunate theme in the opening game of the doubleheader, and their struggles continued throughout the day.

The Golden Rams left eleven runners stranded and did not score a run in the first game. The final score was 6-0.

Kaylee Lofboom (North Branch H.S.) pitched admirably and went 2-4 at the plate.

Game 2 featured a little better offense and sound errorless defense. The Golden Rams strung ten hits as Ana Doran (Big Lake H.S.) and Rebecca Liebelt (Columbia Heights H.S.) each had a multi-hit game.

Michaela Donat (Elk River H.S) also had a strong game at the plate and brought the fans to their feet on a number of occasions.

Alexus Martin-Warren (Andover H.S.) and Bailey Cole (Anoka H.S.) each contributed in a losing effort on the rubber for Anoka-Ramsey. The final in game 2 was 11-3 in favor of Cumberland College.

The Anoka-Ramsey Softball squad had the opportunity to play a doubleheader at Disney Wide World of Sports in Orlando against Lincoln College and dropped both games by scores of 10-0 and 15-7.

In the first game, the Golden Rams picked up six hits with three of them coming from freshman Stephanie Keeler ( Fridley HS).

Kaylee Loffboom (Fr, North Branch HS) took the loss despite only giving up two earned runs.

Game two saw the Golden Ram offense get into gear with a season high 13 hits.

Having multi hit games were Sondra Hilbrands (So, Spring Lake Park HS) who went 2-4, Stephanie Keeler went 2-3 with 2 runs scored, Cassie Kunkel (So, Buffalo HS) was also 2-4 with 3 RBIs, Becca Liebelt (Fr, Columbia Heights HS) was 2-4 with 2 RBIs and a double, and Bailey Cole (Fr, Anoka HS) finished 2-3.

Bailey also made her first collegiate start pitching.

The Golden Rams next action is on Monday, March 14 against Chesapeake College.
