No.8 Eagles top 2 ranked teams

WEST BURLINGTON - The eighth-ranked Kirkwood women's volleyball team defeated two ranked opponents at the Jimmy John's Tournament at SCC in West Burlington this weekend.

The Eagles defeated Highland, 3-0, and edged No.20 Heartland, 3-2, while compiling a 3-1 overall record at the tournament. Kirkwood also defeated Spoon River, 3-0, but lost to No.5 Sauk Valley, 3-1.

Rachel Nelson rolled up 147 assists in the four matches along with 31 digs for Kirkwood (7-2).

Offensively Emily Strauss led the kill-shot artists with 52. Kamara Dickerson had 37 kills, Jada Golden-Smith 35, and Katie Kopriva 34.

Takoa Kopriva led the Eagles in digs with 65 digs. Dickerson contributed 43 digs, Katie Kopriva 39, and Strauss 38.

Defensively at the net, Golden-Smith had 13 blocks in the tournament. Danielle Stock 11, Strauss nine, and Nelson nine.
