DMACC volleyball team goes 2-2 in DMACC Invitational
  • DMACC records wins over Glen Oaks Community College and Metropolitan Community College
  • DMACC loses to No. 8 Heartland Community College and No. 1 Iowa Central Community College
  • Bears to host Southeastern Community College on Oct. 6

 

The DMACC volleyball team hosted the DMACC Invitational Oct. 1 and 2 and came away with a 2-2 record in the competition.

 

The Bears, ranked 14th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, split two matches each day. DMACC lost to eighth-ranked Heartland Community College (HCC), 3-1, and defeated Glen Oaks Community College (GOCC), 3-0, on Oct. 1, then defeated Metropolitan Community College (MCC), 3-0, before losing to top-ranked Iowa Central Community College (ICCC), 3-0, on Oct. 2.

 

The split of the four matches gives the Bears a 13-8 record this season.

 

HCC defeated DMACC by scores of 25-17, 14-25, 26-24, 25-22. Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Kylie Welch of Davenport led the Bears with 17 kills, CoFR Abigail Maue of Walker added 11 and CoFR Karlee Timm of Victor finished with nine. DMACC hit .185, getting 51 kills from 162 attacks with 21 hitting errors.

 

CoFR Sara Hansen of Hudson led the Bears in assists with 40 and freshman Ivy Dearstone of Dubuque had a pair of ace serves. Freshman Erin Bathe of Ames led five players in double figures in digs with 19 and Hansen came away with 18. Welch and CoFR Rachel Eddy of Dubuque had 17 digs apiece and CoFR Morgan Tupper of Nevada contributed 14. Dearstone and CoFR Abby Allmon of Norwalk had three blocks apiece.

 

Welch had 11 kills and Timm added seven as the Bears defeated GOCC 25-20, 25-22, 25-13. The Bears hit .213 in the win, getting 33 kills from 108 attacks with 10 hitting errors.

 

Hansen finished the match with 25 assists and Tupper contributed three ace serves. Eddy paved the way in digs with 15 and Dearstone and Hansen had four blocks apiece.

 

Welch's 10 kills led the Bears to a 25-20, 25-15, 25-17 win over MCC. DMACC hit .163 with 28 kills from 98 attacks and 12 hitting errors.

 

Hansen topped the Bears in assists with 19 and Welch had three ace serves and 12 digs to go with her 10 kills. Eddy added 10 digs and Dearstone had six blocks with Maue and Hansen getting five apiece.

 

Welch had nine kills as ICCC topped DMACC by set scores of 25-19, 25-10, 25-20.

 

Hansen came away with 18 digs in the loss and Eddy and Hansen had seven digs apiece with Welch getting six. Maue topped the Bears in blocks with four.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will host Southeastern Community College (SECC) in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference play Oct. 6 inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Bears are 3-2 in league play. SECC is 15-13 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
