Rockford, Ill., August 22, 2021 – The Elgin Community College volleyball team was the first program to face competition this season.

The Spartans competed in the McHenry County College Tournament over the weekend and fell to a total of four teams.

The women were bested 3-0 by Williston State College in their debut game on Friday. Despite the loss, the team improved every set, scoring 25-10, 25-15 and 25-20. The 20 points in the third set would be the highest of the weekend.

ECC found its rhythm in the first two sets against John Wood on Friday, totaling 16 points, before dropping 25-9 in the third and by a match score of 3-0.

The Spartans faced Victoria College first on Saturday, and fell by 25-8, 25-17 and 25-12 in consecutive sets.

The women concluded competition against Southwestern Illinois, and recorded their second-highest set score in the first match with 18 points before dropping 25-8 and 25-9.

Next up for the Spartans is the Rock Valley Tri on Friday, August 27 at 10 a.m.
