Parkland College Golf Finishes 3rd at NJCAA D-II National Tournament, 4 Players earn All-American Honors

The Parkland College Golf team shot an even par 288 on Thursday; good enough for a 3rd place finish at the NJCAA D-2 National Golf Tournament at Glen Lakes GC in Foley, Alabama. The Cobras were locked in a four-team battle for the top spot all afternoon but Mississippi Gulf Coast pulled ahead over the last five holes and held on late to earn the victory. MGC shot 1150 for the four day 72-hole event, and defeated rival Meridian Community College 1151 by just one stroke, Parkland 1153 by just three, and 4th place South Mountain 1154, by just four. The 3rd place finish was Parkland's highest finish ever in Golf. The previous high was 4th back in 1991.

South Mountain did have the top two players in the event as Leon D'Souza was the medalist as he shot a -8 (73-71-67-69) beating teammate Jeffrey Miller -7 (72-67-71-71). Parkland's Kristian Kristensen finished in a tie for 4th place -5 (75-72-64-72) while Jalen Hodges finished in 10th place +3 (71-7-73-75). Both players were named to the All-Tournament team while Kristensen earned 1st Team All-American recognition and Hodges was named to the 2nd Team. Two more Cobras Tyler Woods (72-78-72-71) and Andreas Nielsen (77-77-68-72) were selected as 3rd Team All-American's. All five Cobras finished in the top 45 players in the country as Connor Poffinbarger finished in 43rd place out of over 125 golfers as he shot (73-78-78-73). Just an outstanding team effort as the Cobras shot the lowest round of any team (277) and the lowest round by any player (64) by Kristensen. Congratulations to Coach Corbin Sebens who guided the team to their best season ever as they were M-WAC, Region 24, and District Champions, finished 3rd in the NJCAA, and had 4 NJCAA All-Americans!
