2020-21 MWAC Athletes of the Year

 

Halle Everett (Parkland) and Jake Curtis (LLCC) are this year's Mid-West Athletic Conference Athletes of the Year.

 

Parkland's Halle Everett was chosen as the M-WAC Female Athlete of the Year after an impressive season for the Cobras. Everett was named an NJCAA DII First-Team All-American as well as the Region 24 Player of the Year and AVCA 1st Team All-American. Everett was also named to the All-Region 24 Team and the NJCAA DII National Championship All-Tournament Team (61 kills, .320 hitting % over 4 matches). Everett was also named the MWAC Volleyball Player of the Year and recieved All-MWAC First Team honors. In an impressive week during the season (2/14/21), Everett was named Sports Imports/AVCA Women's Two-Year College Player of the Week and Tachikara 2020-21 NJCAA DII Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week. 

Throughout the season, Everett played in 34 matches, starting 33 of them. Everett produced 525 points (2nd nationally), averaging 5.0/set (8th). She also has 434 kills (2nd nationally), averaging 4.13/set (10th). Everett produced a hitting percentage of .309 (34th) on 1005 attacks. She served 52 aces (2nd nationally), averaging .50/set (58th). Everett tallied up 73 blocks (31st nationally), averaging .70/ set (106th). 

As a redshirt freshman, Everett also earned a 4.0 GPA (16 hours 64 points) in the Fall semester and a 3.0 GPA (14 hours 42 points) in the Spring semester.

Lincoln Land's Jake Curtis was chosen as the M-WAC Male Athlete of the Year after a strong season leading the Loggers to the National Tournament. In addition to being chosen as M-WAC Male Athlete of the Year, Curtis was named the M-WAC Baseball Player of the Year and Region 24 Player of the Year. Curtis was also named an NJCAA DII First-Team All-American. Curtis lead the Loggers in batting average (.435), hits (70) and slugging percentage (.580). Curtis was second on the team in homeruns (12). Curtis helped lead the Loggers to an M-WAC Conference Title, Region/District Tournament Title and a 7th place finish at the NJCAA DII World Series. 

As a freshman, Curtis also earned a 3.0 GPA.
